"I highly recommend the DVD by Martin Black called "Classic Rodea Style Ranch Roping". I bought the DVD and it is one of the best, if not the best dvd on real ranch branding. For one thing, Martin and Frank Dominguez are the main ropers and they are roping at an actual branding. They aren't using some old doggy corriente cross critter that just stands in the arena like it is shot full of thorizine. They have the herd rodeered outside, heading the calves right off their mothers and healing them as they get towards the fire. They make some shots that are so long I think they may be catching a calf in another time zone! Absolutely beautiful roping. But what is even better is their horsemanship while handling the cattle and herd. I guess it is pretty obvious that I am really impressed. I highly recommend the DVD. It is the real deal! Take care and best to the family during this time."

"This DVD has it all: traditional perspective, finesse in stock handling and horsemanship, roping deluxe. I’ve never seen so much information—and inspiration—in one package. For those of us who occasionally get to build a loop and eyeball a few unbranded calves, this is the mother lode."

"I finally got a chance to watch the Bridle Horse series. They are really well done. If a person is interested in learning the use of traditional gear these dvds are the best source I have found. I really appreciate Martin's straight forward, down to earth approach. He shows you the gear and how it is used; how it fits and works on the horse. As far as I am concerned, you want to learn the tradition of taking a horse from the hackamore to straight up these dvds are a must. You did a great job." Rob Paulin
"Martin- The DVDs are a major help. They offer great progressions from ground to saddle, are really clear and full of useful info. I feel like a real dummy, though. I didn't really "get" what leverage and signal meant in the hackamore until I saw your DVD. How could I have missed that? ... After watching how light your hands are on the DVD I am afraid that I've been levering istead of signaling. I guess I'll just have to back off now and get lighter... In the meantime, thanks for some really fine examples on film. I've also enjoyed the WH articles. You and Jennifer are doing some great stuff, and I look forward to Alvord and meeting her." - Best regards, Lili
"Martin- I purchased Colt Starting and the A-Pen last year. I actually built the pen and use it. It comes out from the off-side base of my roping arena. We just rope down the right side of it and around the end. What I really like is that you can get a little life out of a cow without a crew of helpers. I just tie a horse or two in the tip, and even old used up roping steers don't want to get caught up there, and will move to get back to their buddies. Recently I bought the Bridle Horse Series. I grew up near those traditions, but not with them. I saw guys using spade bits and hackamores, but wasn't with them enough to get them to teach me. If I said their names, you'd know them or their kids. The transitions from bosals to spades have always been a big hole in my program. Many of the guys I worked with regarded spades as cruel and harsh. I always knew they were wrong, but didn't have all the chapters of the story. Martin's explanations connect the dots... Martin's explanations of how hackamores and bits balance and affect the horse really make sense. My hands have a lot better idea what's going on at the other end of the rein.... While this approach requires lots of time in the saddle, it does give me something to work on each time I ride. I'm always gaining a little ground without spending the whole ride in the arena or pen. At any rate, these videos are well done and very helpful." - Jim Crummett
"Hi... By the way the DVD's are really great...I am especially glad you left the comical segments in there... I learned a lot. thanks" -Lyndra
"Hi Martin, ... I just watched the Hackamore DVD. Your attention to little details like tying a mecate lead to a saddle -- the care taken to describing the feel in bumping and doubling -- the discussion of what to consider in selecting a hackamore... virtually every aspect of the DVD is outstanding and I thank you for making it. I needed this information and am grateful for it. Were it daylight, I'd go ride! The DVD is fantastic -- of teaching videos, this one is outstanding. Believe me, I've spent more than my lunch money on videos! That 3-year old that James was riding in your clinic cut his nose such that he couldn't pack a bit for a while, so he went into the hackamore. He likes the hackamore a whole lot more than he likes a snaffle. Again, the timing of this DVD couldn't be better for me and mine! I've repeated your story from your Colt Starting video of "write me an "A"" dozens of times and it really hits home. (I think it was an "A"!) Every time I begin to drill -- that thought crosses my mind. The colt starting lead me to working in the A Pen -- also excellent.... The timing of your series is perfect for me. Thank you and congratulations! Best wishes for the holidays! Looking forward to getting to ride with you next season!" - Marilyn Golden
