Each year our Florida sessions gain more popularity. This year was no exception. The third session turned into a custom built clinic at the request of Tik Maynard for Colt Starting in preparation for the upcoming Road To The Horse Competition. I’d like to wish Tik the best of luck at the upcoming “Road To The Horse” and hope some of the information is helpful in the competition.
Professional horsemen and clinician Cal Middleton has attended numerous clinics with Martin. It is good when talented horseman want to continue going deeper and learning all they can to do the best for the horses they are working.
Thank you to Jessie and Tik for sending in your thoughts about your time spent with Martin in Florida this year.
“The clinic was amazing! Watching Martin work with the colts in a manner without wasting an opportunity or energy was mind opening. I met awesome people and enjoyed participating. I took a lot of knowledge home and have a lot to put into practice! Hope to be able to ride and work with horses like Martin someday.” – Jessie Young Colt Starting Participant
“Martin patiently helped me with skills that were new to me, like throwing a rope and cinching up a western saddle. Martin pushed me in places where I needed to be pushed, like putting the first ride on a mustang.
Martin used to start 500 horses a year. It’s made him quick, slick and smart. If you want to learn to read a tourist, ask a Caribbean bartender; if you want to learn to read a horse, attend a Martin Black clinic.”
