Description
I’ve handled a lot of horses with a lot of different halters and I’ve been dissatisfied with most of them when it comes to difficult adverse conditions.
Rope halter‘s are durable but they have more bite to them and I don’t like the way horses respond with them.
Flat halters fit better and horses don’t fight them as much as the rope halters.
Poly halters are cheaper but they’re not durable and they rot in the sun.
Nylon halters are more expensive and last longer but it’s hard to find any heavy enough to withstand the test of a horse pulling back.
The same can be said about lead ropes. I’ve found the 5/8” nylon shell and nylon core to be the best.
Good snaps are nice but it’s impossible to find one that doesn’t break or fall apart.
For years I fussed around trying to halter colts with a flat halter that wouldn’t stay open, and give me trouble while trying to halter a sensitive colt. I’ve cussed and threatened to come up with a halter that would stay open, be durable enough, and fit a wide range of horses than what most halters have to offer.
I’ve only experienced two halters in my life that were indestructible. I used them for over twenty years before they left in someone else’s trailer.
Riding saddle broncs we had extra heavy made halters, they didn’t fall apart, they fit a wide range of horses, but they didn’t stay open very well either.
I knew a better product could be built. After working with some prototypes I’ve narrowed it down with a shop that produces this type of product. After using the prototype day to day on the ranch, and starting colts, I’m happy to introduce the Black Halter.
Without the flimsy hardware it stays open when trying to put it over the horses nose.
The extra long crown with over twice as many holes allows it to fit most any saddle horses from 700-1500 pound horses.
The crown is extra heavy with burnt holes that won’t tear.
The only hardware is a heavy welded ring for the lead rope, and a good heavy square buckle.
12 foot all nylon lead ropes are optional.
